    Plugging A1200 Keyboard Back In

First of all HI!!, I'm new here and can't wait to discover all you Amiga nuts out there. Anyways back to my problem...

I've unplugged the keyboard on my A1200 but after fitting a HD the green connecting ribbon cable type thing no longer fits back into it's port on the mobo, is there some knack to it? or have I broken it?

Any help would be great, thanks in advance. Also sorry if this is posted elsewhere I couldn't find it when i search.

    Hi Gibsey,
are you talking about the green keyboard cable?
    like this:

this one is from my A600 but is the same type asA1200.

This cable can easly get out of the place,
just press a bit the cable in the white socket, with a small push you can put it again.

I happend the same with my A600 and A1200, it's easy.

Hi Thanks for replying, that is the cable I attempted to describe

I thought it would just require a push like my 600 I've taken apart but it just doesn't seem to want to stay in there or even press down. Its almost like something is jamming it but I can't see any blockages, hmmmm might require a bit more force but I've already given it a fair old press.

    Oh Dear!

Well I've played around with the cable and managed to get the three figured salute working, then I plugged the HDD back in just to test the whole system. The HDD cable must have been touching something as it started smoking and now doesn't look too healthy.

tbh it's only a 40mb HDD I had kicking around from a 600, so I'm thinking I might buy a 2gb flash drive with adapter but actually use it on the 600 the HDD came from as its got a custom paint job and its going to be my main amiga.

So basically, I'm thinking of buying:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Amiga-1200-600...item4a9b82f0de

but just not sure if its a good price as I think I could buy it all sperately and save a few quid, the pre-install would be handy as I have no idea where my install discs are.

    Any thoughts?

    It's from Australia, AUD10$ + AUD3.45$ shipping to Europe.

I think you must have plugged the IDE cable in the wrong way around. 2.5" IDE 44pin cables carry current to power the drive, unlike 3.5" drives which have separate power cables. Plugging these in the wrong way around in the A1200 will mean power is being sent to the wrong pins on the harddrive, and can burn out the wires, and in the most serious cases it can damage the motherboard.

Be very careful in future that you have the red wire (wire/pin 1) in the 2.5" 44pin IDE cable matched up with pin 1 on the A1200's motherboard IDE connector, and the same at the other end on the HDD.

If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!
