I've just gotten a PS3 fat with YLOD, no leads, no controller, no harddrive, spare Blu ray drive of freecycle. The fix for YLOD seems easy, just waiting for a repair kit to arrive.

Nice, although be prepared for it to only last 3+ months before the YLOD returns.
Also the problems are not always the same as there are a few different things that can trigger the fault. What does the kit do? Most people I know strip the PS3 down and bake the motherboard in the oven to reflow the solder and repair the issue due to dry joint movement.
If you haven't played a classic game in years, it's never too late to start!
The kit is essentially for that but also contains flux so that the solder reflow is stronger and also has copper shims so that the overall operating temperature is lower. Hopefully it'll work.£6.99 for a PS3 isn't too bad after all. Lol
