Thread: Commodore are back - sort of

After the recent collective repurchase of all Commodore licenses and patents Commodore Business Machines relaunched using the website

https://commodore.net/

They have now launched new Commodore 64 models using FPGA technology, which is a far better route than the software emulation used in other retro Commodore licensed machines such as the A500 Mini and the upcoming The A1200.

These new C64s have modern HDMI, Wifi and USB, but also provide legacy ports so you can use your original hardware too.

The base one is priced at $299 pounds for either a beige Breadbin or the C64 white version which isn't too bad for a fully compatible C64 remake with modern features. There is also more expensive exclusive versions such as RGB lit transparent ones and even more expensive Founder editions with gold additions.

Is this something you are interested in owning?

As I wasn't a C64 owner back in the 80s this doesn't hold as much interest for me compared to a similar Amiga release, but I can see the appeal. Especially as they did include all the original legacy IO ports and you can still use original floppy and tape drives. I am tempted by the Merch though. It's hard to find a decent commodore T Shirt or cap that doesn't look like it's homemade.

Dificult to answer. First, i dont know what i realy want.
I think i would like a new machine were some of the parts are old real stuff.
So if it is a fpga i want to be able to use old boxes and keyboards, if it is real cpu and no fpga or other emulation then i dont care about box or keyboard. But somehow i need something to say and feal: this is an Amiga. If not, winuae in a pc will do the same.
I dont want a board that runs winuae with no real look or i dont know...
Emulation is complicated to understand. At least for me, it needs something to make a connection to the real stuff.
The A1200NG still looks the best solution where i can say this feel like a real one.

Or even floppy disks

The Andrew Spencer Soccer shirt looks dope though, my favorite game as a kid. They should have it in black & white though, like my TV at that time I never saw it in color for years.
