Thread: Earthquake in Kent!
Harrison 08:43 28th April 2007
An earthquake has occurred in Kent near Dover on the east coast of England and measured at least 5 on the richter scale. It happened at about 8:20am this morning but currently there is not much information on the news.

Whoa that is quite crazy! Is there a fault line near there?

Don't really expect that type of thing over here.
Has Kent got a history of quakes?

Apparently Earthquakes have happened around that area in the past.

Apparently there was an earthquake in the same area in 1950, and a few recorded from the part a few hundred years ago. But it isn't a very active fault line.

They have said the actual fault is quite a long way down under the sea bed so you cannot see anything, even of you looked at the floor of the sea. One thing that could be more of a worry is that the fault seems to be very close to the channel tunnel! They stated it wasn't affected in any way, but would they actually admit if it had?

Something interesting that they are also investigating is a kilometre long crack that appeared on the coast in Hampshire on the same day. They cannot currently state as a fact that it was caused by the earthquake, but it does seem fairly likely.

This may be a bit late lol but the quake was in Folkstone. In terms of driving not extremley far from me. Someones house was broken apart by it. Not sure if we have a history of quakes but certainly not that strong.
