Thread: How does this add up?
Harrison 12:38 1st August 2018
I thought I was fairly good at maths, having an A-Level, but this really doesn't make sense. Anyone make this add up?

Inital agreed sale amount was £150.

"Sales through our website are subject to a 15% commission. ****’s commission for this sale is 45 GBP, the VAT (20%) amounts to 9 GBP and you have earned 96 GBP."

Let me see if i get it:
1) you sold something on a website.
2) the website charges you in a % (15) of the product price
3) the website charges vat (20) on top of it

Write so:

If the product is 150:
150 x 15% = 22,5 then 22,5 X 20% = 4,5
150 - 22,5 - 4,5 = 123 this should be the value right?

But they did:
150 - (300 x 15% X 20%)

so
300 x 15% x 20%

300 x 15% = 45 then 45 x 20% = 9

so
150 - 45 - 9 = 96

They just started from 300 instead of 150.... is that it?

Easy.....

150 - 96 = £54

54 - 9 = £45

And if it still doesn't work for you:

Tiago thanks for your reply. That actually answered it for me. I originally had the listing for £300 but then accepted an offer for 150. So the site charged me fees based on the original listing price. Makes sense now and I will be having words.
