Thread: Playstation 2 emulation
Harrison 16:25 20th July 2015
Has anyone tried any PS2 emulators?

It isn't something I've ever really looked at much other than the early ones to see if they could boot the firmware and actually run something. Not very advanced when I looked and only a few demos would run in any way.

Not really been any news on PX2 emulation, so I took a look and nSX2 and PCSX 2 seem the only 2 around and only the first seems to still be in any kind of development, and even that can't run much.

I'm guessing the PS2 architecture was just too complex for emulation properly. It was hard enough for developers making games on the real hardware.

Anyone know more?

I was using it some time ago to play Culdcept, it works ok I would say, only the music is completely messed up, fine if you turn it off completely, plus it is a bit slow, which doesn't matter for a game like Culdcept, but I cannot imagine playing racing games or eevn FPS with it.

Sadly Culdcept Saga (remake) only came out as region locked version on the XBox 360 in the US, so I won't be able to run it on my console.

That is always really bad these days when they still region lock games. With digital distribution there is no excuse why they can't just release every game globally online.

I suppose the one issue restricting this would be licensing rights in different regions.

Can't you just play it on a real PS2 though?

Saying that, my real PS2s have been boxed up for some time now due to lack of space. Soon that might change though.

Ah, good point. What we really need is for the Vita to be unlocked fully and for it's PS2 emulation to also be available. Then we would have a great mobile PS2.

Sadly to play PS2 games on it you have to buy them again.

I really would like to see some of the great PS2 games coming out for the Vita, even if I would have to pay for them. But so far, no luck, only got FF10 X/X2 remastered. I recently bought Suikoden 1&2 for the Vita, and I saw that there's some other PSX titles out, but PS2 would definitely be more interesting, I wouldn't even need an HD remake, just the 1:1 release.

I hadn't realised Suikoden 1 and 2 were out on the Vita. I will have to grab those.

They were released some months ago, plus all the Final Fantasy's line VII, VIII and IX, wanted to grab them too, but thought I might wait until I eventually want to play them.

Btw, I got the FINAL FANTASY Box Set (FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX) from Amazon, nice stuff.

That does look nice. I've wanted to save money and not buy much lately, but that does look tempting.

Have you also noticed a lot of sequels to famous Playstation games are heading for the PS4? Such as Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, FF XV, King's Quest, Persona 5, Mass Effect Andromeda, World of FF, FF VII remake, Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor.. and many more.

I don't own a PS4 yet, but these will definitely make me buy one. That along with Gran Turismo 7, Uncharted 4 and a few more exclusives on the way.

Yeah, that's great news. I already own over 20 top games for the PS4, but I only played The Witcher 3 so far, I quite like it. Plus lately I'm playing all the time Rocket League, very addictive!!
