Thread: PSIO - SD cartridge for PSOne
Harrison 00:50 30th November 2014
Has anyone else been following the development of the PSIO?

It's a cartridge which plugs into the rear of an original Playstation 1 and can run backup games from SD card. It's nearing completion and I'm tempted.

Here is a video showing the device in action, and most importantly of all it shows the intro of FFVII playing perfectly, meaning it can stream full motion FMV from an ISO image on the SD card (which was a struggle to do in the past), so real PSX CDs will be a thing of the past.

And the official site is at: http://ps-io.com/

I would be more interested if they had it for PS2. PS1 can easily be emulated on the PC, nevertheless this is awesome.

Project seems to be stalled, latest news are almost 1 year old.

The only thing not updated is their news page. If you look on their forums they have up to date work progress logs.

Looks like the PCBs are ready for the board as the developer is currently hand soldering the first ones for testing as is currently looking to source a pick and place machine to assemble the boards automatically. Sounds like it's getting close.

Nice. I'd forgotten to check this project in some time. Still tempted to buy one of these. Nothing like playing on the original hardware.

I bet once released the PD PSX torrents suddenly gain popularity.

You know that additionally to the cartridge you have to solder a PCB inside your PSX? Plus it's only for PSX and not for PSOne.

Yeah, that's fine. I've got a couple of original PSXs, so could use one of those.

Do you know if the PSX needs to be chipped to work? Or will it work whatever as it's emulating the drive?
