SLG3000, built by hand by Germany’s Arcade Forge, offers retro gamers the ability to add scanlines to modern televisions. The box sells for about $70 USD and takes 2-3 weeks to be constructed. For more information on VGA upscaling and the device itself, check the source link below.

I always use scanlines with MAME, it looks more real that way.

Interesting, but wouldn't you be able to get exactly the same effect with software filters, such as those available for MAME?

Yes but this is for those playing original consoles/computers on their new LCD/Plasma/etc TV (after passing it through an upscaler).

So you would need to first upscale older system signals to VGA before using this device? If so, that would surely downgrade the video quality having it going through an upscaler, and then through this to add the scanlines. Is still an interesting idea to make the graphics look as they should though. After all, most game graphic designers on older systems often designed the pixel art to take advantage of the way CRTs work, so this can get lost on newer LCD screens.

I've been reading through some of the articles on the website and some of the newer upscalers for HD TV's are working quite well although the one mentioned in this article http://retro.nintendolife.com/news/2..._for_hdtv_sets uses DB15 input so if you want high quality images on a retro console you will need a Console to DB15 + upscaler + scanline adder = mucho deniro to get a good quality picture.
