Thread: Recommended PS3 games

What PS3 games do you think are must have titles? The best AAA games released so far on the platform? They don't have to be exclusive titles, just the best available for the platform.

For me the following have so far stood out.

Current releases:

Purple = PS3 exclusive

Due for release soon:

note: I've missed a few RPGs from this list as many of them are only going to appeal to fans, so cannot be viewed as overall must have PS3 games. The PS3 RPG list also found in this forum is being used to list and talk about those instead.

PSN Games (download only):

Adding to this list:

Any more games you can think of? List them below and I will add them into the list.

I can only think of Vanquish to add to that list, you allready list the other must-have full releases I can think of.

There's some more PSN titles to get though, Pixeljunk Shooter is definitely one. And everyone should play Flower once. Braid and Trine is on there if you haven't allready got them on a different platform. Also I like Gravity Crash for that wonderful retro feeling, and Shatter is a great breakout game with a fantastic soundtrack.

Maybe I should add a downloads list under the main one, for the smaller PSN titles you mentioned. I had forgotten about Trine and Braid as I have them both on the PC. Will add the list now.

And I agree regarding Shatter. That was a free download last month and i really enjoyed it. It does get a bit too complicated/confusing once it gets to the circular levels though.

Would you say Mirror's Edge is really that good? I found that whist it was unique and fascinating, the game was quite short and not actually that great after a bit of time playing. More a tech demo than a full game.

I had forgotten about a lot of those games being available on PS3 because I already have them all on PC. Will add them into the list. Batman is especially great. Got bored of Infamous quite quickly though.

Do you think I should colour code the list for exclusive titles, and cross platform?

I bet you got quickly bored of Infamous because you played Prototype extensively. For me it was the other way around, I played Infamous fist and really liked it. Played through it twice to see both the good and evil sides. I ended up hardly touching Prototype though.

I still have to play Infamous, only tested the demo, I played 10 hours Prototype, but then I got a bit bored and stopped, but never returned to play it again.

I did play Prototype first, but like DC I also got bored of it after about 10 hours and never came back to it. To begin with Prototype was fascinating, having so much power, and slowly unlocking those skills and abilities you got to preview at the start of the game, but I think the game opened up into a non-linear free roaming sandbox world a bit too early and left you to explore and work it out for yourself. After some time playing around with what you could do it all started to feel the same. Following the actual story and triggering the events was good, but for me the game didn't quite work.

And I think you are right. After getting bored of Prototype, inFamous was just more of the same. Probably worth giving it another go some time in the future when the style isn't as fresh in my memory.

I've added both games to the list, as they are still good in their own right.

I only flayed the inFamous demo, quite enjoyable I must say.

About Mirror's Edge, I have the game, but so far I also only played the demo, I only mentioned it here because I thought it's quite an innovative and exclusive title.

What about Just Cause 2, I like these open world destruction games a lot, like Mercenaries 2.

Btw, yesterday I started with Bulletstorm, and I think it's just awesome, the name of the game is well picked I even almost finished it in one go!

One PSN game you shouldn't miss either is Joe Danger, very good game in an Excite Bike style. IGN review here --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HJDyCV5pOM

Also if you like pinball, Zen Pinball is quite nice.
