If any of you have ever hoped to play the Japanese only Tales games that never got a western release then you may be in luck.

The PSX US game Tales of Destiny was a great game, but the sequel never got a US release. Instead the Tales of Destiny II that was released in the US was actually a renamed version of Tales of Eternia and doesn't follow on or have anything to do with the original Tales of Destiny. It is still a great game, but not the real sequel.

The real Tales of Destiny 2 never got a release outside of Japan, and to rub salt into the wound a PS2 remake of TOD2 was released which upgraded the graphics, FMV and combat for the better, but again hasn't seen a release outside of Japan.

But a hobby based group called Phantasian Productions are hard at work in their spare time translating the PS2 version of TOD2 and are going to eventually release a patch for the game. This will patch the Japanese version of the game ISO and once patched all of the in game menus and text will be in English.

They still have much work to do on this project, but are promising to try and get it finished and released this year.

In addition if you have always wanted to play the PSX remake of the original Tales of Phantasia the good news is that they are also hard at work translating and creating a patch for this game too. You can of course play the original SNES version of this game in English using Fan translated patched Roms but if you want to play the enhanced PSX rerelease it was only ever released in Japan so this translation will be the solution.

Fingers crossed they do manage to finish this translation project and get the patches released.
