What do you want to use your Amiga for? This will effect which type of A1200 accelerator you should look at.

The best upgrade, for the price has to be the following.

Phase 5 Blizzard 1230 MK-IV, which has a 50MHz 68030 CPU, the option of installing a 50MHz FPU, and you can add up to a 128MB 72pin SIMM to it.

This accelerator will greatly speed up an A1200 and allow it to smoothly run all Amiga games using WHDLoad, so you can have all games installed on HDD ready to run.

Expect to pay £100-£150 for one of these.

Good alternatives are the Viper 1230 (also called Magnum 1230) or Apollo 1230 (also called E-Matrix 1230), which come in a few different versions. Different 68030 speed versions from 25MHz to 50MHz exist. Try to get at least a 40MHz version.

These are not quite as good as the Blizzard but prices are around the same. Expect to pay £90 - £130 for one of these.

I wouldn't go for the cheaper ram only expansions. These will just add fast ram to the A1200, which will double the overall speed of the system, but not enough to get the most out of it, or make it a worthwhile investment.

Finally, if you wanted to explore AmigaOS3.9 and have a fast A1200 for productivity work, then you could look at the 68060 Blizzard 1260. These will really speed up the system a lot, but these cards are getting rare, hard to find and expensive to buy.

Expect to pay anything up to £300 for one of these. I have seem them sell for £160, but that is rare. But if you spot one at that price and can afford it, grab it.

But on the whole, you cannot go wrong with the Blizzard 1230 MK-4.

Get the BEST for your A1200; Blizzard MKIV 030/50MHz.

True, a Blizzy 030/50MHz with 32MB is the best thing an Amiga-gamer can get.
Now register WHDLoad, grab a ~4GB HD and have fun.
