Thread: Suggestions on joysticks for a classic Amiga 2000?
outlawal2 14:50 2nd December 2009
I have an Amiga 2000 and would like to run some games on it but I don't have a joystick for it. I know it uses the old 9 pin Atari-type joysticks, but wondered if you guys have one in particular that you recommend... And where I can buy it..

I have seen some Atari sticks on Ebay but thought I would run the question by you folks first..
THANKS

Some good news for you. Recently the company SpeedLink started to manufacture the original red/black Competition Pro Amiga joysticks. These are identical to the original sticks and work perfectly on the Amiga.

Amigakit.com sell them at a reasonable price. Now called the SpeedLink Competition Pro Retro Joystick.

If you're happy with second hand I always love the Quickshot joysticks like this one. However you want the ones without the crappy rubber micro switches as you never can tell if the joystick has registered the fire button or direction. Try find one that makes a thunderous click. I love those (and I'm being serious). Other than that wait until I can be bothered to put one of my spares on ebay or amibay (I'm probably going to get rid of my Cheetah 125+).

I have ordered a few of these, since they're only $4.55 each, or $3.73 if you buy five or more (I bought six, some for my own Amigas, and some as prizes for a contest). They are reproductions of the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis 6-button control pads, which work perfectly fine on all Amigas. You can use button B as the main firebutton, and button C is the second fire button, which many games support. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can modify them to add functionality to button A and Start for use with a few rare games that support modified 3-button MD/Genesis pads, like Flashback, Hired Guns and ADoom. With an extra bit of effort, you can add a jump/accelerate button by making X act as UP, and make Y and Z autofire equivelents of B and C (Fire 1 and Fire 2). Anyway, you can get these control pads here - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30530 and they have free worldwide shipping. But just be prepared to wait a few weeks for delivery!
