Thread: Several .NET Frameworks
Demon Cleaner 16:52 5th August 2009
If I go to my Add or Remove Programs, I can see several .NET Frameworks installed, like:

- .NET Framework 1.1
- .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix
- .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
- .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2
- .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Now as 3.5 is the newest, can I remove the others?

Yes and no.

If you remove the old versions (you may need the .NET removal tool just google it) and the do a windows update you will still end up with all of them but to install 3.5 you may have to reinstall all the .NET versions anyway (usual M$ efficiency).

You shouldn't remove any of them. Different versions are used by different software and are all needed to allow various parts of the OS and other software to run. I've encountered situations where I've had version 2 installed but needed to download and install version 1 as well to get something to run.

It is a bit like DirectX in Vista where both DX9.0c and DX10 are installed alongside each other.

Ok, so I will leave them.
