Thread: AROS - UAE Integration Progress
Puni/Void 19:53 28th May 2009
Hi guys,

Many of you might have heard about the AROS-bounty called UAE integration (basic/initial).

The guy working on it is regularly updating his development blog. There's been a lot of progress, so I encourage you to check it out for yourself. The development blog can be found here.

I think it's interesting to see that there's so much happening with AROS these days. I downloaded the latest build of Icaros and played a bit around with it. Because of the UAE integration, I'm really tempted to start looking more at AROS in the future.

Anyway, here's a picture for you from the blog:

AROS is has definitely suddenly been gaining some development momentum after years of not really progressing very much. It is great to see and I do tend to download each of the main versions as they get released and try out the live CDs. I really hope development continues and we end up with a fully functioning and useful OS.

If that ever happens I might be tempted to set up an AROS laptop as a main system to use when on the move.

PG,
did you install Icaros thru vmplayer?
I try it but the file available to download has some problem when extracting with 7zip.

what did you do? Or is not the vmplayer version?

I gave the Live! version a try. Just unpacked the whole archive to a directory on my HD, and then ran one of the .BAT files.

Have you download the 7-zip program, so that you can unpack the archive? I think 7-zip is a bit different from the ordinary one. I had to download this program myself to be able to unpack the archive.

Good luck and I hope this was of help.

Here's a description of what I tried to run:

This version comes also with a Qemu-based virtual machine which allows Windows users to test the distribution in a safer (but slower) environment.

What kind of an error message do you get? Maybe you should try downloading the package again to see if that works?

I dont remember the exact error, but it is something like: "file corupted"
i download it for more then 1 place, and it gives the same error from every mirror.

Have you got the most up to date version of 7zip? Often older versions can't decompress an archive made with a newer version.
