Thread: Wiki Discussion
Harrison 16:47 3rd November 2008
The new classicamiga wiki is currently still developing and the initial setup should be finished this week.

Use this topic to discuss the Wiki. Ideas you might all have for its content and how it can be utilised.

Today I've been starting to expand and pad out the Wiki. Already I've managed to make it much more of a site. Most of the key sections I could think of are now in place, and I've begun work on many of the key pages for each section. We can then begin expanding these pages and adding further pages within each section.

I've also ported over the articles from the existing FAQs and Tutorials section on the main site, as well as linking PG's demo scene articles. Already this has made a big difference.

In addition I've also already worked on some other pages, including Amiga Hardware, Demoscene and DemoScene links pages, Common Questions and a few others.

As we've had a few questions about resurrecting Amigas just out of storage maybe an article on what to do when you bring you have problems after you've just gotten your Amiga out for the first time in years.

Like a check list of things to go through when connecting it up and switching it on for the first time? Sounds like a good idea.

The great thing about the whole Wiki structure is that we can all be involved in starting pages on the wiki, and then others can add to and evolve the pages with extra content, or add pages from existing pages for other content.

I'm quite excited about the Wiki as it simplifies the process of adding so many additional areas of classicamiga that I've had on my wish list for the site for quite some time. :0

Also perhaps common problems and solutions such as battery leakage on big box Amigas, Disk drive cleaning etc.

One of the sections on the wiki is called common FAQs and I thought we could utilise this like a quick find index page for articles from other areas of the wiki. For example we could have a common hardware issues section on that page, and link to articles written in the hardware section. To kind of pick out the most commonly looked for solutions to problems.

When wiki starts to grow up, how it's gone be against mainsite?
Mainsite has a Hardware section, does not have many articles yet, but does it make sence to have duplicated information?
What kind of information should we have in mainsite and Wiki?
We now have the firsts articles about hardware, i will create some more about 1200/600 projects, so it will start to grow, so, should we have the same articles? Do we finnish the hardware section in main site? Or we just stay with the major hardware info in main site?

There won't be any duplicate information on the mainsite. My idea now is to utilise the main site's directory structure and concentrate on the 4 directories we now have in place on there (hardware directory coming soon). The hardware directory is going to be a database just like the other sections, holding details about all hardware released for the Amiga. In contrast the hardware section on the Wiki will contain the details about each Amiga model released, plus pages examining specifics of hardware such as how to install an HD, accelerators etc...

The current hardware holding page on the main site will be altered to contain directed links to the various related sections on the Wiki once the Wiki pages are complete.

The basic idea is that the main site and Wiki will compliment each other. The Wiki will contain factual information and detailed articles about the Amiga, and the main site will contain the extensive directories about everything released for the Amiga. This will hopefully simplify the content being covered on the two parts of classicamiga.

Obviously the main site will also still be used to post news items.

I also think that articles about the demo scene would be better on the Wiki, with a link to them from the main site's demo scene directory section.
