It's made by team Ninja, they also released the first GC modchip. This one currently only plays backups, no import games.

The first mod chip for the Wii already! That was fast indeed.
So will it run all backups of Wii and Gamecube games? From any region?
Any news on if and when it or another might play import originals? Not that it would be a concern for me personally
Be vary careful about selling mod chips in the UK Stu. It is a very tricky legal area at the moment, with companies like Sony tracking down suppliers and suing people for everything they own. I'm not sure how active Nintendo are in combating the mod chip manufacturers and sellers these days, but at the time of the N64 they were very active and managed to close down Bung Enterprises, the makers of the famous Doctor V64 N64 CD drive unit.

Do you actually read the topics?

Read a little about this earlier while looking at prices of DS flash carts (slot 1 for ease). Will be keeping an interested eye on these, but I probably won't buy anything until the 2nd/3rd set of modchips come out - so i can see what improvements are made and also what attitude Nintendo take towards modded Wiis and online / link up play.

It's the same for myself, the Wii is not on my "items to buy" list, even not for this year. I like the console in some way, but also think that it's a console for kids, or the mid 30 kids. I'm not pro/con Wii, I never played with it, or its controller, but the way of paying games with that controller, makes me worries. I will get one, if there are good modchips available, and the price drops down to 100€.

I think we've arrived at the same decision but from different angles. I love my wii and would be loathe to do anything that might damage it or impair the online/future functionality.
It's not like I couldn't afford to just get another or anything, but I really don't want to mess it up. Probably after I've had it a long time I will be happier to poen it up and mess with the innards, but for now I'm sitting back and seeing how others get on with it.

Course I do! Just stated it plays backups but not imports. That didn't state if it will run NTSC backups on a PAL Wii for example.
