Thread: I am SOOOOOOOOOOO unfit!!!
Buleste 15:34 20th June 2008
I've started to put a few pounds on recently so i started walking. Now i live in beutifull area but it gets a bit boring after a while so i decided i know i'll get a bike. I managed to pick one up off freecycle (maybe it should be renamed freebicycle) today and after checking it out and adjusting it i decided to test it out. Thats when i discovered i'm unfit in a way that whilst i suspected i didn't think was possible. I'm going to lie down for a few days now and eat a few fry ups to regain my strength.

Walking??? Try jogging/running, walking leads to nothing. And cycling isn't a fat burner too, as is swimming. Maybe it's good for your health, but if you want to lose some weight, you have to be hard to yourself and accomplish something.

Stop eating white bread and stop drinking cola/sprite/fanta or such drinks full of sugar, refer to the light or zero versions. This already helps a lot, assuming that you don't eat 500gr of chocolate every day.

LMAO!

I know that feeling. A few years ago I ended being very unfit. I worked in a design office, sat at a computer all day, often from 9am till late into the evening. And there was a very nice chocolate dispensing machine in the corner that didn't help matters. It got to the point that I used to get out of breath walking a couple of roads from the car park to the office!

I decided enough was enough and went on a diet, took up weight training, and started parking the car a lot further from the office! 3 months later I had last 4 inches round the waste and over 2 stone in weight. And I found I could cycle places without feeling like I was about to die.

Another great and quite fun way to get out and have some fun while walking is Geocaching. I discovered this last year with my girlfriend and it is great fun, and you discover some great footpaths and places to go that you didn't even know existed. This is quite an interesting hobby to do.

On a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being 'very fit' and 0 being, obviously, very unfit, how would you rate yourself?

I am tempted to try the exercise known as 'Dogging'.

Apparently 3 out of 4 sportsmen prefer it!

I disagree a bit here, as both cycling and walking can have an effect on your weight. Cycling burns calories, increase your stamina and strengthen some of the bodys biggest muscle groups. It's a fine way to get in shape and you get a lot of fresh air as well. Do this a couple of times a week, and I'm sure you'll notice a difference when it comes to weight.

Cycling and walking can also be combined with light weight training. If you buy some manuals to have at home, you can do some exercises a few times a week. Working out with weights is a good way to loose weight.

I agree with what you say about what to eat and not to eat. Some good suggestions there.

On the 1 to 10 scal,e i used to think 4 or 5 after yesterday i'm not so sure.
As for running then in my eyes as an activity it's worse than walking. Walking you get to take in your surroundings. Running, you're too busy trying not to puke up your lungs. Besides where i live if you're not going down a hill you're going up one and at least with cycling you have the pleasure of going down hills before the pain of going up. On top of that no one wants to see a middle aged fat man running. I'm going to skip on the weights as i don't want to become totally irrisistable to women. The single blokes in my area would send a lynching party.

Watching people having sex is not exactly exercise.
Not a lot of energy expended there.
(Ok maybe thirty seconds worth, but no more)
