Thread: Finally got the slim PS2

I now also have a slimeline PS2 v15 with Matrix Infinity. I just tested it, and it seems Ok, even Codebreaker ran a game with cheats, so EJECT is soldered correctly this time.

And finally I have a backup PS2

Snap, I have exactly the same setup. Did you buy the PS2 pre-chipped?

When I got a slimline PS2 I couldn't believe how small it was compared to the original PS2, or any other console for that matter. It's minute! It's also cool (for those that play Lan and internet games) having a network port finally built in, unlike the original.

Yep. I got it after one week from Germany (www.chipeinbau.de), and you're absolutely right, this thing is damn small. I only tested it, and then put it away, I'm still gonna use my big solid one

The other big difference is how quiet it is. No fans so it makes no noise at all. Using the big old PS2 after the slimline one, you instantly notice the noise from the fan at the back and the DVD drive.

Well, I noticed the noise of the DVD spinning though, which I think is much quieter on the normal PS2. And I prefer the tray to the fragile lid too. And I'm no big fan of external PSUs. But apart from that, which are minor issues, it looks nice.

Yeah, the fragile lid is probably it's main negative point, if it has one. I don't mind the external PSU as it keeps the insides of the actual system cooler, hence no need for an internal fan.

My old PS2 is battered to fcuk, it's taken quite a pounding and yet still works. Somwtimes the disc tray gets stuck and wont come out, but luckily the front cover (with the spinny PS logo) got snapped off when it got slammed it in a drawer, so I can just yank it out. And also it sometimes won't retarct properly but a shove get it in and working like a charm.

Currently the PS2 is standing vertical on top of the fridge - for no real reason. It just got left there

In complete contrast, my original PS2 is still in perfect "as new" condition and has been heavily used.

Mine is still in good condition too. I have done a Biohazard mod to it though, making it looking great.
