Thread: A1200 weird booting issues.
StuKeith 20:50 6th October 2007
For some reason my A1200 wont boot the 1st time. The HDD lights flash like the unit is loading but then just stops.

When I reboot the A1200 it boots fine. its just the 1st boot normally.

The Amiga is booting before the hard drive has had chance to spin up to full speed.

Some drives have this issue with the A1200. I think there is a fix where you cut one of the IDE cable wires, but you'll have to do a search as I can't remember the exact details.

It starts to boot but then just stops, so the hdd is fine. I made some vids!

As Bloodwych said the most common cause of this is a HD with a slow spin up time from cold. Older SCSI drives used to have the problem, but not so much with IDE drives.

Has the drive worked fine from a cold boot before on the A1200?

I do remember there was a fix for this behaviour but I forget what it was. If I find it out I will let you know.

To end speculation about what the issue might be, try booting your Amiga from cold while holding both mouse buttons.

Leave it on the boot menu for a minute, then continue to boot first time.

Do you have the same issue?

Sometimes it wont goto the boot menu from cold either! not the spin up, as it starts to load from the hard drive for about 5 seconds.

It should go to the boot menu every time if you hold down both mouse buttons when you switch it on. If it's not even doing that then it could be more hardware related. What PSU are you using?
