Thread: Dead A1500 HD
StuKeith 18:24 24th September 2007
I think the HDD in my 1500 has died. It no longer boots to the wb, and with wb loaded from floppy there is no unit displayed.

I cant seem to hear anything as well. Should I track down another SCSI drive or get a Buddah and use a spare IDE HDD and IDE CD rom? (might get the cd working then!)

Cheers

I think the IDE option is the best to go for now if the existing drive is dead. Only because SCSI drives are getting harder to find in smaller sizes and unreliable as they are getting old.

Would it work in conjunction with the SCSI card in there? Im only saying that, as it as 2mb of ram installed into it!

You should be able to keep the SCSI ram card in there alongside an IDE one. I can't see a problem with that.

The only issue might be in the order the cards are in the system. Ram normally needs to be in the first slot for the best speed, but equally so does a HD controller card for data throughput.
